When using Rootlok for plug planting or live planting, please follow these steps
Important Note: When designing for live planting, follow these guidelines:
Limit plant holes per Bag: Maximum of three plant holes per bag.
Avoid cuts below the water line: Do not cut the bags below the water line.
Planting Small Root Balls (Under 100mm)
1. Preparation:
Use a dibber (dibble) to create a hole in the Rootlok bag.
Remove soil as necessary to accommodate the root ball.
2. Placement:
When planting into the bag face, aim to place the plants in the top 1/3rd of the bag. This helps prevent soil loss.
3. Inserting the Plant:
Insert the root ball directly into the hole.
Ensure the root ball is fully embedded within the bag's opening.
4. Watering:
Ensure the root ball is moist before planting, or water thoroughly after planting.
Planting Larger Root Balls (Over 100mm)
5. Creating the Opening:
Make up to three inverted "T" cuts in the bag, with each cut being 50-75mm in width and height (adjust based on plant size).
Minimize the size of the cut to fit the root ball.
6. Preparing the Cavity:
Create a cavity large enough to fully embed the root ball into the hole. lIf needed, fill the hole with additional medium (e.g., compost) to secure the plant.
7. Securing the Cut:
After placing the plant, staple or tape the bag cut if necessary to secure the plant and prevent soil loss.
8. Final Steps:
Ensure the root ball is fully embedded in the bag's opening.
Water the plant thoroughly if the root ball wasn't already wet before planting. Following these steps will ensure successful planting and establishment of plants in the GeoGrow system.
